Description: O universo observável se refere à parte do universo que podemos ver, que é uma esfera com nós no centro. O raio do universo observável é determinado pela distância que a luz conseguiu percorrer até nós desde o início do universo. As regiões no limite do universo observável estão tão distantes que sua luz só teve tempo suficiente para chegar até nós após viajar por 14 bilhões de anos; em outras palavras: ao longo de toda a idade do universo.

As regiões mais distantes do Universo que podemos ver estão agora a mais de 40 bilhões de anos-luz de distância. Isso se deve ao fato de o universo ter se expandido muito desde que a luz dessas regiões foi emitida e chegou até nós. A luz de objetos fora do universo observável ainda não teve tempo suficiente para chegar até nós.

Quanto mais esperarmos, mais tempo a luz terá para chegar até nós, e maior será o universo observável. Outros observadores no cosmos têm seus próprios universos observáveis: uma esfera com eles no centro, cujo raio é a maior distância em que a luz de outras regiões teve tempo de chegar até eles.
