Glossary term: Rigonfiamento galattico

Description: Nella Via Lattea il bulge galattico รจ la regione attorno al centro della galassia, dove le stelle sono disposte in un volume meno appiattito rispetto alla regione discoidale circostante. La componente del bulge della Via Lattea contiene soprattutto stelle vecchie, ma con una commistione di stelle giovani. Altre galassie a spirale contengono bulge centrali di varie estensioni.
