Description: Der galaktische Bulge ist ein Bereich um ein galaktisches Zentrum, der sich im Vergleich zur umgebenden Galaxienscheibe über diese Scheibenebene heraus zu wölben scheint: Die Sterne im Bulge befinden sich in einem weniger abgeflachten Volumen als die Sterne in der umliegenden scheibenförmigen Region.

Die Bulge-Komponente unseres Milchstraßensystems enthält überwiegend alte Sterne, aber auch einige junge Sterne. Andere Spiralgalaxien haben ebenfalls Bulges, die unterschiedlich groß sein können.
