这张照片记录了在孟加拉国库里格拉姆观测到的日全食。日食发生时，从地球上看，月球经过太阳前方时。尽管月球的体积远小于太阳，但由于月球距离地球更近，两者的角直径几乎相同（约为半根手指的宽度）。因此，当月球恰好位于太阳和地球之间时，能够完全遮住太阳的盘面。环绕黑色圆盘的光环被称为日冕。

图片说明 Dieses Bild zeigt die totale Sonnenfinsternis, die von Kurigram in Bangladesch aus beobachtet wurde. Sonnenfinsternisse treten auf, wenn der Mond von der Erde aus gesehen vor der Sonne vorbeizieht. Der Mond ist viel kleiner als die Sonne, und der Erde aber genau so nah, dass die Winkeldurchmesser von Sonne und Mond fast gleich groß sind (etwa 1/2 Fingerkuppe). Daher kann der Mond die Sonnenscheibe verdecken, wenn er direkt zwischen der Sonne und der Erde vorbeizieht. Der Ring aus Licht um den schwarzen Kreis wird Korona genannt.

图片说明 This image represents the total solar eclipse as observed from Kurigram in Bangladesh. Solar eclipses occur when the moon, as seen from earth, passes in front of the Sun. The moon is much smaller than the Sun, it is closer by the night amount that the angular diameters of the Sun and moon are almost the same (~approximately 1/2 a fingertip). Therefore, the moon can cover up the Sun's disk when it passes directly between the Sun and the Earth. The ring of light around the black circle is called the corona.

La Luna è molto più piccola del Sole, ma è più vicina alla Terra, tanto che i diametri angolari del Sole e della Luna sono quasi uguali (circa metà dell'unghia di un dito).
