Description: O clima espacial descreve a variação temporal das condições próximas da Terra relacionadas com a presença de partículas carregadas e as propriedades do campo magnético terrestre. Condições adversas de clima espacial, com grandes quantidades de partículas carregadas provenientes do espaço, podem dificultar as comunicações por rádio e, no caso de uma tempestade solar, chegar ao ponto de danificar equipamentos eletrônicos nas naves espaciais ou mesmo em terra. O clima espacial também está associado ao que são certamente os mais belos fenômenos climáticos espaciais: as coloridas auroras polares. Os fatores que influenciam o clima espacial são os raios cósmicos, o estado dos cinturões de Van Allen de partículas carregadas nos campos magnéticos da Terra, o vento solar de partículas carregadas e eventos como erupções solares e ejeções de massa coronal que lançam partículas carregadas na direção da Terra.
