Description: El efecto Doppler es la variación en la longitud de onda (o frecuencia) detectada de las ondas sonoras o luminosas, provocada por el movimiento relativo de la fuente hacia el observador o alejándose de él. Este efecto permite a los astrónomos estudiar el movimiento de cualquier cuerpo (estrellas, galaxias, gas, etc.) que emita ondas (por ejemplo, radiación electromagnética). Por ejemplo, en el caso de la radiación emitida por una estrella con líneas espectrales en longitudes de onda específicas, las longitudes de onda de todas las líneas espectrales se desplazarán. Para velocidades significativamente inferiores a la velocidad de la luz, el desplazamiento Doppler en la frecuencia (o longitud de onda) es proporcional a la velocidad relativa de la fuente en la línea de visión del observador dividida por la velocidad de la luz.
