Glossary term: Frecuencia
Description: La frecuencia es el número de oscilaciones por unidad de tiempo, expresado en ciclos por segundo (o hercios [Hz]). Es una propiedad general de cualquier onda: ondas sonoras, ondas de luz u ondas gravitacionales. La frecuencia y la longitud de onda de una onda se relacionan mediante la fórmula frecuencia = v/longitud de onda, donde v es la velocidad de la onda. Cuando hablan de radiación electromagnética, los astrónomos suelen utilizar la frecuencia o la longitud de onda (a veces de forma intercambiable).
