Glossary term: Frequência
Description: A frequência é o número de oscilações por unidade de tempo, expresso em ciclos/segundo (ou hertz [Hz]). Trata-se de uma propriedade geral de qualquer onda – seja uma onda sonora, luz ou ondas gravitacionais. A frequência e o comprimento de onda de uma onda estão relacionados pela fórmula
frequência = v/comprimento de onda,
onde v é a velocidade da onda. Ao discutir radiação eletromagnética, os astrônomos geralmente usam a frequência ou o comprimento de onda (às vezes de forma intercambiável).
