Description: El núcleo estelar es la región central de una estrella. En el caso de las estrellas de la secuencia principal (como el Sol), el núcleo es el lugar donde tiene lugar la fusión nuclear, la fuente de energía de la estrella. En el núcleo de una estrella de la secuencia principal, los átomos de hidrógeno se fusionan para formar helio. En estrellas evolucionadas, como las gigantes, es posible que no se produzca fusión nuclear en el núcleo, o que otros elementos, como el helio, proporcionen el combustible para dicha fusión nuclear. En estas estrellas evolucionadas, la fusión del hidrógeno (y otros procesos de fusión nuclear) puede tener lugar en capas alrededor del núcleo.
