Description: O núcleo estelar é a região central de uma estrela. Para estrelas da sequência principal (como o Sol), o núcleo é o local da fusão nuclear, a fonte de energia de uma estrela. No núcleo de uma estrela da sequência principal, átomos de hidrogênio se fundem, formando hélio. Em estrelas evoluídas, como as gigantes, pode não haver fusão nuclear no núcleo, ou outros elementos, como o hélio, podem fornecer o combustível para essa fusão nuclear. Nessas estrelas evoluídas, a fusão do hidrogênio (e outros processos de fusão nuclear) pode ocorrer em camadas ao redor do núcleo.
