Description: Un planetario es un teatro dotado de equipos especializados que permiten visualizar fenómenos astronómicos. La mayoría de los planetarios cuentan con equipos de proyección especializados y una cúpula semiesférica. Cuando se proyectan estrellas y planetas sobre la cúpula, el público se encuentra sentado bajo un cielo nocturno artificial. Los proyectores tradicionales, de tipo optomecánico, están diseñados específicamente para simular el cielo nocturno. Los planetarios digitales, en cambio, utilizan uno o varios «proyectores especializados», que pueden proyectar no solo el cielo nocturno, sino cualquier tipo de imagen en movimiento. Esto permite ofrecer «películas de cúpula completa» no solo sobre astronomía, sino también sobre otros temas: el público puede viajar en una nave espacial virtual, pero también explorar el micromundo del ADN humano, por ejemplo.
