图片说明 Dieses Weitwinkelaufnahme zeigt den Bereich des Himmels rund um Alpha Centauri, das unserem Sonnensystem am nächsten gelegene Sternsystem. Es befindet sich etwas mehr als 4 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt im Sternbild Centaurus.

In der Bildmitte erscheint Alpha Centauri extrem groß und hell. Diese Größe entspricht jedoch nicht seiner wirklichen physikalischen Größe. Der Stern wirkt überdimensioniert, weil sich sein intensives Licht beim Durchgang durch die Optik des Teleskops und das zur Aufnahme des Bildes verwendete fotografische Material zunehmend ausbreitet.

Alpha Centauri ist kein Einzelstern, sondern ein Dreifachsternsystem: Alpha Centauri A und Alpha Centauri B, die beide unserer Sonne ähnlich sind und sich gegenseitig umkreisen, sowie Proxima Centauri, ein kleinerer roter Zwergstern, der die beiden sonnenähnlichen Sterne in größerer Entfernung umläuft und nach der Sonne der der Erde am nächsten gelegene Einzelstern ist. Alpha Centauri A und B stehen zu nahe beieinander, um auf diesem Bild getrennt dargestellt zu werden, und erscheinen daher als ein einziger Stern in der Mitte. Proxima Centauri ist hier ebenfalls nicht zu sehen. Er befindet sich knapp außerhalb der rechten unteren Ecke dieses Bildes. Auch wenn er mit abgebildet wäre, könnte man ihn kaum in der Masse der ähnlich hellen Sterne erkennen.

图片说明 This wide-field image shows the region of the sky surrounding Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to our Solar System, located just over 4 light-years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus.

At the center of the image, Alpha Centauri appears extremely large and bright. However, this size is not its true physical size. The star looks oversized because its intense light spreads out when passing through the telescope’s optics and the photographic material used to record the image.

Alpha Centauri is not a single star, but a star system made up of three stars: Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, which are similar to our Sun and orbit each other, and Proxima Centauri, a smaller red dwarf star that orbits farther away and is the closest individual star to Earth after the Sun. Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B are too close together to be resolved in this image so appear as one star in the center. Proxima Centauri is not shown here, it is just off the bottom right corner of this image. If it were shown it would be difficult to pick out from the mass of stars of similar brightness.

La stella sembra sovradimensionata perché la sua intensa luce si diffonde quando attraversa le ottiche del telescopio e il materiale fotografico utilizzato per registrare l’immagine.

Alfa Centauri non è una singola stella, ma un sistema stellare composto da tre stelle: Alfa Centauri A e Alfa Centauri B, simili al nostro Sole e che orbitano l’una attorno all’altra, e Proxima Centauri, una stella nana rossa più piccola che orbita più lontano ed è la stella singola più vicina alla Terra dopo il Sole. Alfa Centauri A e Alfa Centauri B sono troppo vicine tra loro per poter essere risolte in questa immagine, pertanto appaiono come un’unica stella al centro. Proxima Centauri non è visibile qui, ma si trova appena fuori dall’angolo in basso a destra dell’immagine. Se fosse stata inclusa, sarebbe stato difficile distinguerla dalla moltitudine di stelle di luminosità simile.
