Glossary term: Marte
Description: Marte è il quarto pianeta del sistema solare per distanza dal Sole. Deve il suo nome al dio romano della guerra. Viene spesso chiamato "pianeta rosso" per il suo aspetto color ruggine. È un pianeta roccioso e la sua atmosfera è molto sottile. È il secondo pianeta più piccolo, con un raggio pari a circa la metà di quello della Terra. Marte possiede ampi sistemi di canyon, la montagna più alta del sistema solare e due piccole lune (Phobos e Demos). Nel corso degli anni sono atterrate su Marte numerose sonde, che hanno consentito agli scienziati di studiarne composizione e atmosfera. Un tempo su Marte era presente acqua liquida.
