الوصف: الفترة المدارية هي الزمن الذي يستغرقه جسم ما لإتمام دورة كاملة في مداره حول جسم آخر. بمعنى آخر، هي المدة التي يحتاجها الجسم ليعود إلى النقطة نفسها في مداره.

يمكن أن تكون هذه الدورة:
- كوكباً يدور حول نجم مركزي (مثل دوران الأرض حول الشمس).
-قمراً يدور حول كوكب.
-نجماً أو مجموعة نجوم أو سديماً يدور حول مركز مجرة.
- نجمين (نظام نجمي ثنائي) يدوران حول مركز الكتلة المشترك بينهما.
