Description: A União Astronômica Internacional (IAU, do inglês International Astronomical Union) é uma sociedade de astrônomos profissionais de todo o mundo que atualmente atuam em algum ramo da pesquisa, educação ou divulgação da astronomia. Foi fundada em 1919 e trabalha para desenvolver atividades de divulgação e educação para o público, além de promover a pesquisa ativa em astronomia por meio de seus encontros científicos.
