On May 6–7, 2025, the Associação Moçambicana de Astronomia (AMAS), in collaboration with the Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE), successfully hosted a Teacher Training Program (TTP) in astronomy at Escola Secundária Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo. The event brought together around 30 enthusiastic teachers from across the region for an intensive two-day training.
This initiative is particularly important for Mozambique, where no university currently offers a degree in astronomy. As such, this training represents a vital step in laying the groundwork for the development of astronomy education in the country. By empowering teachers with scientific knowledge, practical skills, and didactic tools, the TTP contributes directly to building local capacity and promoting interest in space science among students.
The program created a unique platform for Mozambican educators to engage with astronomy in a hands-on and inspiring way, strengthening their ability to integrate astronomy into the national curriculum and stimulate curiosity in young minds.
Through initiatives like this, AMAS and its partners are helping shape a future where astronomy is not only taught, but thrives in Mozambique's schools and institutions.
