Glossary term: 색상 색인
Description: 별이나 다른 천체의 색지수는 두 가지 색(또는 파장 영역)에서 측정한 밝기의 차이를 말합니다. 가장 흔히 사용되는 색지수는 (B–V)입니다. 여기서 B는 표준 파란색 필터를 사용해 측정한 등급(밝기)이고, V는 표준 노란색 필터를 사용해 측정한 등급입니다. B 필터는 예전 사진 건판의 색 감도와 비슷하고, V 필터는 사람 눈의 색 감도와 비슷합니다. 별의 경우 (B–V) 값은 별의 온도를 알려주는 중요한 단서가 됩니다. 파란 별은 온도가 높고 (B–V) 값이 작으며, 붉은 별은 온도가 낮고 (B–V) 값이 큽니다. 하지만 이 값은 별빛이 지구로 오는 동안 성간 먼지에 의해 붉게 변하는 적색화 효과의 영향을 받을 수도 있습니다.
