현대 천문학자들은 전천 탐사 (전체 하늘 서베이)의 일환으로 성도를 만들며, 이를 통해 연구하는 대상에 대한 다양한 정보를 기록합니다.
또한 성도는 일반 대중을 위해 인터랙티브 컴퓨터 프로그램이나 모바일 앱 형태로 제공됩니다.
