Description: En astronomía, los términos cuerpo celeste, objeto celeste, cuerpo astronómico y objeto astronómico se utilizan casi indistintamente como términos comunes para todos los cuerpos físicos y objetos del espacio que estudian los astrónomos, incluyendo estrellas, planetas, galaxias, nubes de gas, etcétera. Algunos astrónomos utilizan "cuerpo celeste" o "cuerpo astronómico" en un sentido más restringido, es decir, para objetos que están claramente separados de su entorno: en ese sentido, un planeta sería un cuerpo celeste, una nube de gas no (pero seguiría siendo un objeto astronómico). En las escalas más pequeñas, los términos no se utilizan habitualmente. Un protón puede llegar hasta nosotros desde el espacio exterior, pero no se le suele llamar objeto astronómico ni cuerpo celeste.
