Das IAU OAE ist eine Einrichtung der Internationalen Astronomischen Union (IAU) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie und gefördert von der Klaus Tschira Stiftung und der Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. Die Shaw-IAU Workshops für astronomische Bildungsarbeit wurden von der Shaw Price Foundation finanziert.
