天燕座是一個靠近南天極的南天星座。因此，在南半球全年的某些時候都可以看到它，但在北半球只有最靠近赤道的地區才能看到。對南半球的所有溫帶和南極地區而言，天燕座是拱極星座（即永不沒入地平線）。在北半球的夏季和南半球的秋季，它在夜空中最為顯見。
深空天體：球狀星團 NGC 6101 在圖中以疊加了十字符號的黃色圓圈標注。
