# IAU Office of Astronomy for Education
The IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) is responsible for astronomy in education at primary and secondary levels. We host a network of National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs), have a multilingual database of resources and run regular workshops on astronomy in education. The OAE is hosted at Haus der Astronomie (HdA), on the campus of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg.

- [Diagrams API]https://www.astro4edu.org/oae-api/diagrams/all/): A REST API page listing all of the diagrams in our database. These are multilingual with text on each diagram translated as well as the diagram caption
- [Glossary API](https://www.astro4edu.org/oae-api/glossary-terms/all/): A REST API page listing all of the terms in the OAE glossary. The terms and definitions in English were reviewed by a research astronomer and a teacher. Translations of these are available with some translations already having been reviewed by  a research astronomer and a teacher.
- [Big Ideas API](https://www.astro4edu.org/oae-api/bigideas/all/):  A REST API page listing all of the Big Ideas in the Big Ideas in Astronomy project. This is a framework outlining what can be considered basic astronomy literacy. The Big Ideas are multilingual. Each Big Idea is split into subideas, these contain text describing the concepts in more detail (see Big Ideas Subideas API).

##Structure
- [National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs)](https://www.astro4edu.org/naec-network/): We host a network of National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs). These are teams of five astronomy education experts who are tasked with helping the OAE document and analyze how astronomy is used in teaching in its country or territory, identifing existing relevant actions, organizing professional development for teachers and developing readily accessible and high-quality educational material tailored to the specific needs of the country or territory, and for specific groups and school levels.

- [Research](https://www.astro4edu.org/icaer/): The International Capacity-Building in Astronomy Education Research (ICAER) brings together astronomy educators and researchers worldwide with two goals: to build a community of astronomy-education-research-literate volunteers centred around the OAE's National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs), and to carry out cross-national comparative research on how students understand and engage with astronomy.

This includes the global online IAU OAE Conference on Astronomy for Education. Previously the OAE hosted the online Shaw-IAU Workshops and a series of in-person Regional Shaw-IAU Workshops.
